The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — Another Award Type Might Solve This

As any major prize-giving event approaches, you'll find a demand for the addition fresh award types to recognize underappreciated efforts and satisfy the passions of fans with niche passions.

Another commentator made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. So would board games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward since similar to single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request remains most pressing above others. Here's the proposal: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason movie academies steer clear of genre categories. But it is a necessary evil within the realm of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

The major gaming awards presently include classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these classifications effectively encompass many game types, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Think about these outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: structural challenges in a particular game, intense tile-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. What category would fit them within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year that have no home at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked for anything in 2014
  • A different innovative game received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title got ignored recently
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're compact experiences, yet the craft in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games count as the most-played games worldwide maintaining this status for over a decade.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals famous sandbox experiences competing to become most purchased experience; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. You could fill multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers function at the challenging frontier game development, developing some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait decades.
